Phnom Penh free of landmines, assures government

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian government has declared its capital province Phnom Penh as free of landmines and assured that there will be no more casualties from such ordnances in the capital.

The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) said that in Phnom Penh alone, a total of 318 hectares believed to contain mines and also unexploded ordnances have been cleared.

It said a total of 221 anti-personnel mines, 175 anti-tank mines and 28,611 other unexploded ordnance were removed over the years in the province.
