BERA: Tasek Bera, spanning 38,446ha, was declared Malaysia's first Ramsar site in 1994, bringing international recognition and protection to the wetland. Located 70km from Temerloh, its management is under the purview of the Wildlife and National Parks Department. A Ramsar site is a wetland designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, also known as the Convention on Wetlands, an inter-governmental environmental treaty established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971.
