Twitter quits EU disinformation code, says commissioner

BRUSSELS: Twitter has decided to leave the EUโ€™s disinformation code, a voluntary pact that groups together the major social platforms, but โ€œits obligations remainโ€, EU industry commissioner Thierry Breton tweeted today.

Launched in 2018, the EUโ€™s code of practice on disinformation counts nearly three dozen signatories, including the giants in the sector such as Meta, Google, Twitter, Microsoft and TikTok.

It also covers smaller platforms, as well as advertisers and fact-checkers and non-governmental organisations.
